The need to visualise and display images led to the invention of the Magic Lantern in1660. This candle-lit projector used hand-painted glass slides and had evolved into the modern
projector. In the 1880s the epidiascope, a projector for opaque objects and documents, the forerunner of today's overhead projector, was invented.
The introduction of motion picture film in 1929 gave rise to the very popular 8mm and 16mm motion film projectors. In the 1980s, multimedia and multi-projector presentations, made possible through the use of early personal computers became
the choice for AV shows and presentations. Meanwhile the low cost of video over films soon saw the 16mm projector
replaced by the CRT video projectors. However, the rapid development of the PC and LCD have resulted in today's era of LCD, DLP and Plasma digital presentation systems.
